motors operating under medium to heavy starting conditions. It belongs to
the Siemens 3UC6 series, which is engineered for applications requiring extended
current range motor protection using current transformer (CT) operation.
This relay works on the bimetal thermal principle
combined with CT current sensing, where motor current is stepped down
through CTs and converted into heat energy in the bimetal strips. When abnormal
conditions such as overload, phase loss, or current imbalance occur, the
bimetal elements deflect and activate the trip mechanism to disconnect the
motor, preventing overheating and winding damage.
The 3UC6230-5J is suitable for low-to-medium
current CT-based motor protection applications, commonly used in industrial
